The Historic Temple Theatre
On Main Street in Viroqua you’ll find the Historic Temple Theatre a live music and performance venue. Built in the 1920’s in the classic revival style, the theatre also maintains remnants of an art deco remodel in the 30’s. The space has been the region’s cultural center for nearly 100 years.
Where to begin? Check out their website for upcoming events. You will find anything from classic films to contemporary comedians and musicians from around the world.
Driftless Music Festival
“Music, food, and fun under the trees” pretty much sums it up. Located in the heart of the Driftless, this yearly outdoor festival in Viroqua is free to attend and is held the second Saturday in July. They understand that festival food should be as important as the music. You will find locally sourced and organic options, including locally made sodas.
Where to begin? Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket to spread out in the park. There are plenty of shade trees and with the many awesome food options, no need to hike in the picnic basket.

Westby Area Performing Arts Center
Local talent from the Westby area to national performers can be found at this performing arts center. The community got together to create this state of the art venue to present quality performances.
Where to begin? If you are trying to catch one of their free performances for families, note that space is limited and these events are often based on a first come, first serve.
Driftless Music Gardens
This outdoor venue near Hillsboro is a true slice of the Driftless and is home to two annual events, Bonfire and People Fest. These summer events span three days each and are full of music and community. Bring your tent to camp for the events in the coulee. It’s on a farm, so expect cows, llamas, and one of those fresh Driftless streams that seem to sprout up everywhere.
Where to begin? Don’t bring glass, expect to recycle, and their rules are simple – be respectful, don’t be a jerk. If you can handle that, you’re in for a great time.
Prairie Dog Blues Festival
In Prairie du Chien, this festival is held every year on St. Feriole island out on the Mississippi River. You’ll have to admit that this is one of the prettiest festival venues you’ve ever been to. Two days of Blues and Roots music, the artists you know and love and the up and comers that will have you saying, “I saw them when”.
Where to begin? Camping is an option, but there is a shuttle service to area hotels if you’d rather sleep in a bed than under the stars. It is on the Mississippi, so there is a nearby marina if you choose to arrive by boat.
