Retreat

Retreat, Wisconsin

Since it was established in 1846, Retreat Wisconsin has never lost that old-fashioned sense of community. A quaint little village on a windswept ridge nine miles east of the Mississippi River, and short jaunt off the Great River Road. It is the home of the original Retreat World’s Fair, put on by their local Sportsmen’s Club and held every year since 1919, complete with a horse show, parade, 4-H projects, and for over a decade its included a tractor pull. A small town event the whole family will enjoy. The Redneck Summerfest hasn’t been going on for as long, but is another unique Wisconsin fest.

The 10-acre Walnut Mound Cemetery is the location of the Veterans Memorial Monument honoring the veterans buried there who served in wars from the War of 1812 to the present. Businesses may be gone, but the beautiful farmland that first drew settlers here still remains.
