De Soto

De Soto, Wisconsin

Named after Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, this village welcomes visitors as they travel on Highway 35, Wisconsin’s Great River Road, or by boat along the Mississippi River. Before the arrival of the railroad, when the river was a primary means of shipping, grain and lumber were sent to this bustling river town. As transportation methods shifted, De Soto changed into a place for refuge and respite.

Rest, relaxation, and recreation are now the focus of this friendly community. Nearby Blackhawk Park and Recreation Area is a popular destination for travelers on land or water, with its hiking trails and camping areas. Anglers, duck hunters, or those who just enjoy a lazy day on the river will be sure to enjoy the quality of life in scenic De Soto.
