Hillsboro

Hillsboro, Wisconsin

Hillsboro is known as the Czech Capitol of Wisconsin, and every year, on the second weekend in June, the community celebrates its heritage. For three days, “Cesky Den” brings out the Czech in everyone, with roast pork, sauerkraut, and dumplings; an arts and crafts fair; even a Polka Mass. Be sure to visit the Historical Society’s museum and the preserved log cabin and one-room schoolhouse at the Albert Field Memorial Park.

A state historical marker commemorates Cheyenne Valley, the largest rural African-American settlement in Wisconsin. Craftsmen from Hillsboro built many of Vernon County’s historic round barns.

The Hillsboro Northeastern Spur Trail serves as a trail head for bicyclists, and links with the 400 State Bicycle Trail in Union Center (which connects to the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail). Cyclists arriving in Hillsboro will find easy access to the area’s network of scenic, paved town and country roads.
