Genoa

Genoa, Wisconsin

Situated between magnificent tree-topped bluffs and the main channel of the Mississippi, Genoa was the location of an early steamboat landing. It is still the home of the oldest floating barge on the river, a great place to pick up bait tackle, fuel and supplies as you head out in search of walleye, bass, and panfish.

Nearby is the massive Lock and Dam #8, constructed in 1937 and the largest Federally-managed pool on the Mississippi. Also nearby is the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Fish Hatchery, which concentrates on the recovery of threatened and endangered species as well as sport fish. And don’t forget the close-by village of Romance, the “Wild Turkey Capitol of the World.”
